Our Story
“CRETE MESSARA OLIVE OIL” S.A. was founded in 2018 by a small team, but with more than 30 years of experience in different fields of olive oil segment.
The headquarters are in Athens and the standardization plant is located in Messara, Heraklion, Crete.
The privileged location of Crete allows us to have a great diversity and varietal wealth and this is the reason of the high quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced in Crete, with strong personality, special varieties, rich aromas and “full” flavors.

Messara, southern Crete
These factors showed us the path to Messara, a large region of southern Crete with a small marine front to the west, from where most of the island’s olive oil originates.

Olive Tree – A 4000 years story
Thousand years ago, the Greek land was blessed with a gift destined to become synonymous with its civilization: The Olive Tree. A symbol of social and religious values, progress, peace, affluence, wisdom and fame.
The Olive Tree, harmoniously tied with the Greek landscape and its inhabitants’ temperament, chiselled by the Mediterranean sun and the Aegean winds has served the Greek Spirit and Soul as an endless source of inspiration.
After Noah’s flood, Noah received God’s message of nature’s rebirth in the shape of an olive branch delivered by a white dove.
Olive oil was the foundation of the Cretan economy during the Minoan era. Evidence of this relationship can still be found in the surviving artifacts in the palaces of the once mighty empire in Knossos.

The Goddess of Wisdom, Athena, bestowed to the city bearing her name the Olive Tree as a sign of her bond with the city. It was under the shade of an olive tree that great men like Plato, Aristotle and Saint Paul argued the meaning of life.
An olive branch was the ancient Olympics golden medal, as it was the wreath bestowed to the winners. Legend has it that the wreaths came from a tree planted by Hercules himself.
It took a philosopher to systematize the art of olive keeping. It is said that under Aristotle’s tutelage olive keeping became a science.
Today, in the shadow of great traditions and legends, Greece still relies on the olive tree. The Olive Tree serves both as a universal symbol of peace as well as a symbol of Greece. More importantly, it fed, bred and gave shed to countless generations of Greeks and earned its place as an integral part of our culture.
